Business studies is a subject that is very popular among students facing G.C.E Advanced Level. Passing the Advanced Level examination with Business studies as a subject ensures a high demand for a student at the job market. It also enhances his/her chances to enroll for degree programmes in local and foreign universities, and makes him/her eligible to follow various professional courses as well.

Thus there is a significant rise in the number of students who wish to follow Business Studies in English medium. However, though there are many text books in Sinhala based on the Advancesd Level syllabus for Business Stidies, there exists almost none in English.

A Brief Introduction of the Author

Professor Jagath Bandaranayake is a professional educationist with vast experience, who has served for many years in the capacities of the Dean, Head of Department and a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and also as a visiting professor in a number of foreign universities and Higher Education Institutions.

Professor Bandaranayake has made an immense contribution towards developing the discipline of Business Studies in Sri Lanka, by serving as a resource person for preparing G.C.E (A/L) and G.C.E (O/L) syllabus for Business Studies, guiding the preparation of instruction manuals for teachers and conducting teacher training programmes for the Ministry of Education since 1990. Further more he has served as the Controlling Chief Examiner for A/L Business Studies examination more than fifteen years and gained an unique knowledge and experience in the subject.

Professor Bandaranayake engages in teaching and research in the fields of Business Studies, Business Management and Marketing. He is also a well-known author on these subjects.
